beowulf

if anyone of u has ever read 'beowulf' i'd be thankful for every help!

what is the point of it? what is like the main story? i mean, i got that it's like about heroic beowulf but i mean, what exactly is happening and why?

ok, does anyone know what he descriebes in the first 13 lines? i mean, it's something about grendel, that's all i get... (from: 'a powerful monster, living down' to 'and leaves, made quick with life, with each')

actually i don't even get the first two parts. i read the first four yet and i kinda got a bit in part 3 and 4, but like all the stuff from:
'A powerful monster, living down
In the darkness, growled in pain, impatient'
up to:
'To those who will rise to God, drop off
Their dead bodies and seek our Father's peace!'

i think it's like about the Herot and some battle that happend their, i think like warriors were in there and attacked by sb/sth or the other way round, they attacked... awww, i dunno, but if anybody knows sth about that, please help me!
